A 15-year-old was booked into San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall for vehicular manslaughter after a fatal crash Sunday morning, Stockton Police Department reported.

The police department said about 10:20 a.m. Sunday, San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office deputies attempted to catch up to a suspect vehicle that was wanted for a felony out of Contra Costa County.

A Stockton police officer assisted after noticing high speed and erratically driving east on Charter Way, police said.

The vehicle then collided with another vehicle at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Lincoln Street, police reported. The 37-year-old male driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

The 15-year-old driver of the suspect vehicle was taken to the hospital before being booked into juvenile hall. It is unknown what felony the teen was wanted for or if the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Stockton and Concord police departments said they were unable to respond to media inquiries because of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

This remains an active investigation by the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office, the Stockton Police Department, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner, and the California Highway Patrol.

The Stockton Police Department encourages anyone with any information to call the non-emergency line at (209) 937-8377.
