CHEBOYGAN - A Cheboygan man was recently arrested for sexually assaulting a victim under 13 years of age.
In October, a trooper from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post was notified by a mandated reporter of an alleged sexual assault of a minor.
During the investigation, it was alleged 24-year-old Samuel Gene Stewart from Cheboygan had sexually assaulted the young victim while in the victim's bedroom. The alleged assault took place the evening before the victim reported it to officials.
A report was turned over to the Cheboygan County Prosecutor's Office and an arrest warrant was authorized. Stewart was arrested on Nov. 24, and lodged in the Cheboygan County Jail. He was arraigned Nov. 28 in the 89th District Court in Cheboygan County for one count Criminal Sexual Conduct Second Degree Victim Under 13, one count Assault with intent to do Great Bodily Harm, and one count Accosting Children for Immoral Purposes.
His bond was set at $10,000 cash surety and his next scheduled court appearance is on Dec. 14.
