Jimmy V Women's Classic: Virginia Tech defeats Lady Vols




 

No. 9 Virginia Tech (8-0) defeated the Lady Vols (4-5), 59-56, Sunday in the Jimmy V Women's Classic at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Tennessee never led in the contest and trailed, 23-13, in the first quarter.

Virginia Tech led Tennessee, 34-30, at halftime.

Tennessee out-rebounded Virginia Tech, 46-31, and held an 18-9 advantage for offensive rebounds.

Jasmine Franklin and Jillian Hollingshead did not play for Tennessee due to injury. Rickea Jackson missed the game due to a coach's decision.

Jordan Horston recorded a double-double for the Lady Vols, totaling 26 points and 11 rebounds.

Tamari Key recorded 11 points and seven rebounds for Tennessee.

Four Virginia Tech players scored 10-plus points in the contest.
