Officials from the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office are on scene would not disclose the nature of the investigation, but an Argus Leader reporter observed first responders removing something wrapped in a white sheet from a camper in the field, where much of the activity was centered.

Cpt. Josh Phillips, with the sheriff's office, said the incident was being treated as an "active crime scene," but would not comment any further, including releasing details of what may have been in the white sheet, which was placed onto a stretcher and loaded into the back of an ambulance.

Authorities arrived at the scene around noon, Phillips said, after receiving a report of what was an "accident."

Deputies on scene asked media to stay across the highway from the area as the investigation continued. Authorities also brought out a drone to help provide an aerial view of the "heavy, dense, weeded" area for investigators, Phillips said.
