Mother who threw her baby into Bayou Terrebonne pulled child from water

The woman accused of throwing her 18-month-old boy from Liberty Bridge Friday apparently had a change of heart and rescued her child, Houma Police said Monday.

Asha Randolph was charged with attempted first-degree murder after throwing her baby into Bayou Terrebonne. The 30-year-old's motives are currently unknown, police said.

Moments after she threw the child into the water, Randolph entered the water and pulled the baby out, said Houma Police Department Chief of Detectives Travis Theriot.

The child was taken to a local hospital, where he is expected to recover, said Theriot.

Police said Randolph 8-year-old and 6-year-old children were in her vehicle during the event.

Randolph has also been charged with child Desertion and obstruction of justice

Theriot said the case is still under investigation.
