Michigan football had the worst injury news it could possibly have the week before facing Ohio State. While the Wolverines ended up trouncing the Buckeyes, the College Football Playoff and national championship hang in the balance, given the status of star running back Blake Corum.
Corum took a helmet to the knee in the late first half against Illinois, and while he did appear in a couple snaps against OSU, he was clearly ineffective and ended up staying on the sideline for the rest of The Game.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Corum will have knee surgery and will be out for the rest of the season - big, considering that the Big Ten Championship game is this Saturday, and with the Wolverines likely being in the College Football Playoff, regardless of what happens in Indianapolis.
While that is Rapoport's analysis, depending on the surgery and severity of the injury, we're not completely writing Corum's late-December, early-January availability off just yet. However, if he is having surgery, it does appear unlikely that he will be ready to go for any of Michigan's postseason appearances.
