The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of one of its own deputies Tuesday for felony lewd or lascivious behavior with a child.

According to a release, SRSO was informed of allegations against Deputy David Daniels by the Department of Children of Families.

"Immediately after receiving the report, our Major Crimes detectives began to investigate the reported incident," a SRSO news release stated. "Due to the nature of the claim and Daniels' position as a school resource officer at High Road School of Santa Rosa, he was immediately removed from his position at the school and replaced with another deputy."

The release also states the allegations against Daniels stem from an incident in January 2016, but did not occur while Daniels was on duty or on school premises.

Daniels was placed on administrative leave and subsequently fired from the SRSO after his arrest.

"This is another case of an individual that has tarnished the badge," Sheriff Bob Johnson said in the release. "Once we were made aware of it, we responded appropriately, arrested him, and terminated his employment. At the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office, we put our citizens first and any deputy who breaks the law will be immediately held accountable."

The SRSO is asking for citizens with concerns regarding Daniels to contact Lt. Bobby Sample in charge of the School Resource Division. The SRSO non-emergency line is 850-983-1190.
