Police say a Knoxville man was angry over being shorted during a marijuana purchase and got into a physical fight with the seller before fatally stabbing him early Monday morning.
Mark Venson, 56, was arrested Monday night by Knoxville police officers and has been charged with second-degree murder. Marshall Nelson, 47, died in the fight.
Venson remains in custody on a $300,000 bond, court records state.
Officers responded to The Vista apartments on Hall of Fame and Summit Hill drives in East Knoxville just after midnight Monday for a reported stabbing, court records state. When police arrived, they found Nelson with stab wounds to the head and chest. Nelson was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
According to court records, Venson was identified as the suspect and told officers he had gone to the apartments to buy marijuana. Venson said the men began arguing and Nelson punched him in the face. Venson told police he pulled a knife and stabbed Nelson twice, court records state.
