MUNCIE, Ind. - The first witness at a murder trial being conducted this week in Delaware Circuit Court 3 identified the defendant as the man who fired the fatal gunshots.
D'Ante N. Davis, 24, is charged with murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury and conspiracy to commit armed robbery in the shooting death - on July 22, 2021 - of 23-year-old James Braydon "J.B." King III.
King - a former Muncie resident who more recently lived in Anderson - was shot to death in an apartment in the Canterbury Townhomes complex on the city's west side.
An occupant of the apartment, Lionell Davis Jr. - no relation to D'Ante Davis - was the first witness called to the stand Tuesday by prosecutors Andrew Ramirez and Zach Craig.
Lionell Davis said King routinely supplied marijuana that the witness dealt, and was at his home that afternoon to complete a transaction.

Davis said as he sat "chillin'" with King, Muncie resident Jason Becraft entered his apartment, purchased $20 worth of marijuana, and then left.
A few minutes later, he recalled, another man - wearing a ski mask and armed with an assault rifle - entered the apartment and fired as many as 30 gunshots, with several bullets striking and fatally wounding King.
Lionell Davis said after an initial spree of gunshots, he recognized the gunman to be D'Ante Davis.
The witness, who said he was "scared" and clung to a couch cushion while the shots were being field, testified a bag belonging to King that reportedly contained thousands of dollars was taken, apparently by the shooter.
D'Ante Davis is being defended by local attorney Kelly Bryan.
Jury selection, under the direction of Judge Linda Ralu Wolf, was completed Monday.
Becraft is scheduled to stand trial, on the same charges as D'Ante Davis, on March 20.
