Virginia Beach police are investigating separate shootings - one of them fatal - that occurred just miles and minutes apart Wednesday night.
Police responded to a shooting at 7:25 p.m. to a Pizza Hut in the 5300 block of Wesleyan Drive. One victim was found across the parking lot from Pizza Hut near Connect, a concrete church in the plaza.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Jody Saunders, Virginia Beach police spokesperson.
A report of a second shooting just 3 miles away came in around 10 minutes later. The second shooting was at a Food Lion grocery store in the 700 block of Independence.
Two people were shot at the Food Lion, one who was known to the shooter and one who was a bystander. Both were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Saunders said.
At the scene of the Pizza Hut shooting, much of the plaza parking lot was blocked off by police tape as authorities worked to piece together what happened. An official at the scene said the investigation was still in the early stages.
Police said they are working to locate suspects and notify next of kin.
Additional details were not immediately available.
