A Visalia woman is recovering after being attacked early Friday morning. Her dog was snatched during the incident.

Visalia patrol officers rushed around 2:45 a.m. to Fairview Village Park in Visalia, just south of North Target, where a woman had been stabbed in the neck. She was suffering as police arrived but managed to tell them what happened.

The woman, who wasn't identified by police, said four to six people attacked her while in the park, which is next to Global Learning Charter School. One person had a baseball bat and hit her. Shortly after, another person stabbed her. The assailants ran off with the woman's "small brown dog," Sgt. Bryan Somavia said.

The woman was rushed to Kaweah Medical Center where she is recovering from non-life-threatening wounds.

Police didn't say what prompted the attack, if anything. They also didn't give a description of the subjects. Violent Crimes Unit detectives will take over the case and are searching for witnesses or information that could lead to an arrest.

The name, breed or additional description about the dog wasn't provided by police.

Anyone with information regarding this attacked is asked to call Detective Andrew Saelee at 559-713-4576 or the Anonymous line at 559-713-4738.
